IPAQ to NI USB 6008

Is it possible to run an LabVIEW 7.1 application on HP IPAQ 2790 (Windows Mobile 5.0) and communicate with NI USB 6008?

The NI USB-6008 connects to a computer via USB.  The IPAQ has no USB port.  So, since there is no physical connection possible, they cannot be used together.

I'm interested in communication between PDA and USB DAQ (6008).
Is it possible to run an LabVIEW creted application on the PDA, and send/recieve data to 6008?
I plan to buy PDA (and I'm searching for the right model) and NI USB 6008, if it will gonna work.

I don't know of any PDAs with a USB port.  There is a CompactFlash to USB Host adaptor that may let you plug in an NI USB-6008.  It can be found here:

I have no idea if you can get the DAQ to work after you get it all hooked up.  It looks like it will work.

There are tablet computers that have USB ports native to them, but they are larger than a hand-held.

If you want to perform data acquision with a PDA as recommended by NI, here are a couple of links:

If you can find a PDA with a PCMCIA adaptor sleeve, you can use many of the PCMCIA devices.  There are also a few companies that offer CompactFlash to PCMCIA adaptors.  These look a little fragile to me, but they may be of interest.

Fujitsu-Siemens says, that some of their "pockets" had usb 1.1 host and slave (for example LOOX N520...

Is this a "real" usb port?

You should also consider whether CE will support this. On XP, plugging in the USB 6008 requires you to install DAQmx as its driver. I'm not sure whether CE has an analogous detection service (even though I know LV PDA does support DAQmx base).

It looks like a real USB port.  This is a slick unit.  I am glad you found it and pointed it out!

As for the comment that the NI USB-6008 may not work with it, I think it will as the data sheet says that it will work with PocketPC.  Data sheet is here:

It looks promissing.  You might have to talk to NI a bit to get it all working together, but I am sure that they would be interested in knowing that as well.

Hi All-

NI-DAQmx Base 2.0.1 for PocketPC does provide support for the USB-6008/9 and USB-6501 with PDA devices which feature the capability to act as USB hosts.  I'm assuming this is the "real" USB port you were referring to before.

NI has tested some devices and has a short list of those we know will work and those that won't currently work due to varying issues.  They are:

Known to Work:

• Toshiba e750 (Pocket PC 2003)
• Acer n30 (Pocket PC 2003 2nd edition)

Known to NOT Work:

• TPC-2006 (WinCE)
• Juniper Systems Archer Field PC (Windows Mobile 5)

Other devices should work in theory, but we have not tested with and can not guarantee operation for other PDAs.  If you have the equipment available it is certainly worth a try.  If you experience good results please let us know which PDA and OS you are using.
