Interface 4145A with LabVIEW

Hello All,

Hope you are doing well! I am interested in interfacing the HP 4145A with LabVIEW. I realize that this is an obselote instrument and the driver for 4145B, which does work with it for the most part, is not fully intergrated with it. I was able to find posts that discussed issues with it:

The only question I have is: Was anybody able to interface with the 4145A instrument from LabVIEW properly and without any issues? If so, would you be willing to discuss your hack over here? I am not able to get it to work at all and my customers are finding it difficult to move on with their project.

Hi, Adnan.

The main issue associated with the HP 4145B is solved by implementing a delay before reading the data and after writing the data.  The instrument driver available for the 4145B model is not supported with the 4145A model. 

In order to obtain an instrument driver for the 4145A model, you have a couple options available to you:

1. You can contact instrument.drivers@ni.com and request an instrument driver for your particular device; be sure to include the version of LabVIEW that you are using.  You may get lucky, and the instrument driver team may have one available for you.
2. You also have the option of developing your own Plug and Play Instrument Driver.  Read through the Developing LabVIEW Plug and Play Instrument Drivers for more information regarding this process.  This document will introduce you to the Instrument Driver Project Wizard (Tools»Instrumentation»Create Instrument Driver Project...).  It's a really simple tool to use when you're creating your own instrument drivers.
