Is it dead? (NI 9263 output card for cDAQ)

I am using a 9263 output card to pass a sine signal to a shaker. Its been working nicely until today I turned everything on and the card wouldn't output anything. I did have the problem before but turns out I was trying to measure an AC signal on a DC multimeter setting. At the same time I tried testing it with a 5V DC output in the card test in MAX which put my shaker to sleep. Its own safety feature shut it down for too much voltage. I was able to reset the shaker which works fine now and after that the card has been working well for the last few days. So the first time the card wasn't really malfunctioning, it was all user Smiley Happy.

Today I have measured it with both the multimeter at the terminals, as well as with a few different cables, and an oscilliscope. Still no reaction from the card when I try to output anything.

I did find one cable that gave me an open loop reading during these tests. Could this cable have shorted the card? What else could have happened I have done to this card and how do I tell if it is dead? Is there anything I can do to it to fix it?

Thanks,

_ME_

If the device does not work anymore, it is best to contact your local NI support center. They will enable you to send in the device for repairs. Additionally, they can give you some further instructions on testing the device if it's really "dead".

My first suggestion would be:

What does the device do if you remove it from the fixture and test it "externally"?

hope this helps,

Thanks Norbert. How would I test it externally? I am on pins and needles to call NI!

With "external", i am talking about removing connections to your current testfixture. With nothing connected to it, you should use MAX to configure the device to output certain voltages. You can then use a dataacquisition device to check if those voltages are really available or not. If not, it is most probably that the device is broken and has to be repaired.

Just got off the phone with the RMA people, it sounds like you are right. I'm sending it into the NI hospital now.
