Hello kmcdevitt,

This is Andrew Brown, an Applications Engineer from National Instruments. I can definitely research whether this option exists. To clarify your use case, I would be interested in the following:

1. What PXI controller would you be using?

2. Would the ExpressCard SSD be hooked directly into the ExpressCard/34 slot of the PXI controller or via a USB adaptor?

Regards,

Andrew,

I would be using the ExpressCard SSD inserted directly into the ExpressCard/34 slot of the PXI controller.  (Not using a USB Adapter).

I have one PXIe-8133.

I have 9 PXI-8110.

I have 10 PXI-8108.

I have one PXI-8106.

I have 5 PXI-8196.

All of the above have ExpressCard/34 card slots.

Kevin.

Hello Kevin,

Thank you for the clarification. My research into booting a PXI Controller into LabVIEW Real-Time from an ExpressCard SSD has led to the following restrictions:

1. The ExpressCard SSD must adhere to the same hard drive restrictions as Real-Time PCs. The restrictions are outlined in Requirements for Desktop PCs as LabVIEW Real-Time Targets, the relevant section of which is below:

2. The ExpressCard SSD must be formatted in the FAT32 file system, as NTFS is not supported with the Real-Time operating system.

3. Booting LabVIEW Real-Time from the ExpressCard slot on a PXI controller has not been officially tested by National Instruments, so it cannot be guaranteed to work.

Given these restrictions, it should be possible to boot all of your PXI Controllers into LabVIEW Real-Time from an ExpressCard SSD. However, this operation has not been officially tested by National Instruments.
