Is it possible to have the Waveformgraph Cursor Legend in a Tab Control while the Graph is not in it?

Hello,

I want to have a Tab Control below my Waveform Graph, where the user can switch between some tools - the Waveform Graph Cursor Legend amongst others.

But it seems not possible to get the Curor legend into the Tab Control while the Waveform Graph is not in it.

Is there a possibility to get it into the Tab Control somehow?

Hello Marcel_C,

I have just tried this on my computer. It seems this really is not possible.

The reason is that the cursor legend is an element which strictly belongs to the waveform graph. These two cannot be split up.

I also tried the other way around: Put the whole thing in the tabcontrol, then move only the graph outside but leave the cursor legend in it.

Here my mouse cursor shows me that this is not possible. I cannot drag it outside the tabcontrol.

It does not matter if the tabcontrol is an indicator or control element.

BUT:

It is possible to show the position of the cursor using a property node. You can create a property node for the position, add an indicator to it and move the indicator into the tab control. You can also change the position with the property nodes.

The question is: what would you like to do with the cursor? You can do a lot with property nodes.

Just tell me, then I can try and send you a small VI to demonstrate it.

Thanks for the fast reply - I have LabVIEW 2012SP1 and cannot open your vi. Can you save it for LV2012?

Hello MarcelC,

I am sorry but I only have LV2013 installed, furthermore in german.

But I can post some screenshots and try to explain it.

In addition to that, LV is able to read bmp files as code. Just copy and paste the code I posted from paint into an empty block diagram, should work.

(I had to zip the bmp, forum does not support bmp files.)

- bekommen Praktikanten bei NI nicht gesagt, warum BMPs im Forum unerwünscht sind? Hast du kein Tool, um dein BMP in ein vernünftiges Format wie PNG umzuwandeln?

- bekommen Praktikanten bei NI nicht erzählt, wie man VIs für ältere LabVIEW -Versionen konvertiert? Schon mal ins Dateimenü geschaut?

Wenn du dich schon als NI-Mitarbeiter outest, solltest du auch etwas Sachkenntnis beweisen! (Meine Meinung...)

no you can't split the legend from it's graph. You can instead:

- create a duplicate graph, show it's legend and minimize/hide the plot area to fake a separate legend

- create your own plot using a table, listbox or array...

- just read the cursor properties using property nodes, don't forget to set the "Active Cursor"!

Btw. what's the point in separating a cursor legend from the graph? In one page of the tab the user can move cursors, in the other page (s)he can look at the results of his actions???

What the heck: you can't write the word "w_a_t_c_h" (without underlines) in the forum? I don't get it...

2. ich dachte man benötigt bmp damit es funktioniert, png ist komprimiert und kann im Blockdiagramm vielleicht nicht gelesen werden.

Habe es probiert, geht doch, ich lern ja gern dazu

3. auch hier danke für den Hinweis mit den älteren Versionen. Man glaubt es kaum aber hier sind auch nicht alle allwissend.

Schönen Tag noch, ich denke außerdem Marcel kann sehr wohl was mit meinem Vorschlag anfangen.

Ich möchte noch anmerken, dass ich die Idee mit einem zweiten Graphen wesentlich ungünstiger finde, als einfach den Eigenschaftknoten. Aber das kann man ja ausprobieren.

1. Du bist mit deiner Signatur als offizieller NI-Vertreter im Forum unterwegs. Da (denke ich) kann man voraussetzen, dass du eine entsprechende Einweisung bekommst...

3. Ich dachte immer, sowas lernt man auch in den LabVIEW-Basics, die es kostenlos auf der NI-Webseite gibt. Und die wiederum werden sowohl von NI als auch von vielen hier im Forum empfohlen! Das hat übrigens nichts mit "allwissend" zu tun, sondern mit einer vernünftigen Einweisung für offiziell auftretende NI-Mitarbeiter hier im Forum (meine Meinung)...

Hallo,

sicher werde ich hier nicht erzählen wie es bei uns intern abläuft.

Es steht jedenfalls fest, dass wir abschweifen und damit Marcel nicht geholfen ist. Und dass man in einem Forum, egal welchem, freundlich miteinander umzugehen hat. Das mit der Signatur war ungeschickt, klar bietet das Leuten die Möglichkeit ihren Frust mal an einem Mitarbeiter rauszulassen.

Aber auch hier wieder was gelernt.

Nur eins: NI hat außer LabVIEW noch andere Software plus die ganzen Tools für die Supporttättigkeit, die weit mehr als das Forum umfasst.

Außerdem gibt es eine "Hand voll" Hardware, die es kennenzulernen gibt. Man kann nicht erwarten, dass jemand innerhalb von Monaten alles über alle Bestandteile des Produktportfolios weiß und bei den vielen Kursen alles hinterher auswendig kennt.
