I've been meaning to say thank you. I'm likely to use your LED method. As for the pseudo code... thanks for your example, it wasn't all that different than what I came up with, as I used the comparison = vs. the R / IQ gizmo used in your example. Actually, I was using that as an example myself as that code piece has been such a staple of programming (at least for me) in every language I've used, that I don't even have to think about it. It usually takes little time to adapt it to the syntax of a different language, that taking hrs to figure it out shows how different Labview is to a text based language, and how little I yet know about Labview.
I have a couple more questions, But I'll put them in another thread.

check these links to examples in the same web of Arduino, you should work with photocells, but these can fail to work if in the open exposed to the cold and hot environment, in this case the LED is much more resistant
