LVCE activation issue, again...despite following all forum suggestions

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello,

i would like to download labview CE. i have switched off my firewall and deactivated IP6, and yet I run into the "typical" issues that so many other users have reported. i have made a new account, and tried different wifi hotspots including that of my phone. i get the "there is no license associated with your account" message.

needless to say that this is needlessly frustrating. any help is much appreciated.

Installing LabVIEW has always been tricky, particularly if you are offered "everything" and attempt to install "everything".  Whenever a student asked "Can I get LabVIEW installed on my PC for my class", I always say "Yes" (as our license allows this), "but bring me your Laptop and let me do it for you".  I install "minimal LabVIEW" (LabVIEW, VIPM, DAQmx, VISA, maybe something else -- I haven't done this in this Time of CoVid ...), and they are Good to Go.

Try installing 32-bit LabVIEW, VIPM, DAQmx, and VISA.  Resist the temptation to install other things (you can always run NIPM later and ruin your successful installation add additional things you think you need.

If you are still having trouble, try to find a mentor/colleague with a few years of LabVIEW experience who can come and help you.  I've done an occasional "Remote Assistant" installation, but "in person" is much easier ...

Dear Bob,
thank you for your reply. Indeed it took talking to colleagues for two days to find a workaround (i.e., not a solution): I tried to install the 2021 version that was just recently released, and no matter what I tried, it wouldn't work. However, using the same procedure with the 2020 version worked. I do not know if the new version (which only appears to have been out for a week or so) is generally "unactivatable" or if it just requires even more hoops to jump through (I had switched off the firewall and changed my IPsettings, which is already beyond reasonable preparation). I will update the post title or make a new post for others to find.

Best,

tb

I can testify that it is possible to install LabVIEW 2021 (I have it running on a VM as I type this).  I installed it exactly as I described:

  1. Started with a "clean system", no other NI Software, so I'm not installing "on top of" or "alongside of" earlier versions.
  2. Chose LabVIEW 32-bit installation.
  3. First pass, installed only LabVIEW 32-bit and VIPM.  Did not install any drivers.  Installed almost no "Add-Ins" (I did this mid-week, didn't record all the details).
  4. Rebooted.  Made sure I could open and configure LabVIEW.
  5. NIPM, installed (some) Toolkits and Modules, added DAQmx.  Installed a minimal set of needed Add-ins.  Another reboot.
  6. I'm doing some Real-Time work, so installed RTM, FPGA, etc.  Installed minimal set of (new) Add-ins.  Another reboot.
  7. Final installation of anything I missed that I need.
