LabVIEW 2011 breaks LabVIEW 8.5

I recently "upgrade" to LV 2011 which I found out deleted all of the LV 8.5.1. LV 2011 only supports drivers back to LV 8.6!

Ok now I uninstalled LV 2011 and reinstall LV 8.5.1, now I get this error - which does not exist in LV 8.5!

That sounds backwards. Drivers are separate from LabVIEW. Do you mean that the newest DAQmx 9.4 and NI-RIO 4.0 (etc.) drivers no longer support LV 8.6? I don't think that is true. According to the readme files, 8.6 should be supported.

(EDIT: Ah, sorry. I misread. You only have 8.5)

NI-DAQ and LabVIEW Version Compatibility (for Windows)

The versions of DAQmx that support the new version of LV (2011) do not support more than a few versions back.  Thus LV 8.5 falls off the list as too old.

Yes 8.6 is supported but LV 8.5 and older are no longer supported.

From NI Support

Unfortunately, for most (if not all) drivers, there will not be a version that supports both LabVIEW 8.5.1 and 2011.  We typically support the 3-4 previous versions of LabVIEW with each driver - DAQmx 9.4, for example, supports LabVIEW 2011, 2010, 2009, and 8.6.

But the worst part was the incomplete uninstall that left LV2011 drivers installed.

You said you uninstalled LV 2011 and reinstalled LV 8.5.

Did you uninstall NI-DAQmx 9.4 and reinstall the older version NI-DAQmx.?  It is the older version of NI-DAQmx that you will have to reinstall in order to be able to get DAQmx support in LV 8.5.  Remember that drivers always have to be installed after LabVIEW in order to get support in that version of LV.

Do you need to have working versions of LV 8.5 and LV 2011 with all the drivers working?  Then you will either need separate PC's or create virtual machines on your PC.  There are numerous other message threads discussing this.

I uninstalled everthing using msiBlast and reinstalled in the correct order (23 years of installing LV).  The problem was several LV 2011 dlls where left in the C:\windows\system32 folder ( see post #3).  LabVIEW FPGA 8.5 was somehow being redirected to a LV 2011 driver.

Once I deleted the offending LV 2011 dlls and reinstalled everything - I am now running. The clue was LV 8.5.1 was looking for nip2p.dll which does NOT exist in LV 8.5.1.

Glad you figured it all out. Make sure you get a CAR so this can be fixed in the future.

NI R&D is aware of this and The CAR# is 312868
