LabVIEW 3D Picture Control Evaluation Software Discussion

here is the fundemental issue: I want two different things in the same window. 1) I want a series of points defined by x,y, and z vectors to be displayed (this is my data). 2) I want a 3D geometry to be desplayed, ideally with the apperance created by using the wireframe mode in the 3d picture control properties.

I just went ahead and created a 3d paremetric surface for a sphere and used a 3d graph to display it. Now the problem i have is that I cant get it to graph multiple things in the same window. If I wire the 3d graph display to a 3d curve and a 3d parametric surface, it just graphs both, one after the other, and when the second one appears, the first disappears (it seems to work the way matlab does when it comes to using plot functions).

Is there anyway i can have both points and a shape in one window? This seems so simple, but I keep trying everything that comes to mind and nothing seems to work.

thanks for your help

You simply use a different plot for each.

See here for an example of the 3d graph with multiple plots of different types.

yes, i just came to this realization a couple minutes ago... so I guess this is pretty decent. Not as cool as it would be with openGL, since most of the points disappear when you rotate the view, but good enough, at least it gets the job done. Thanks for your help.

so now a new question: i want to have a program that runs continuously and plots different objects based on user inputs. Is there a why to clear the graph while the program is running? I want to be able to clear the graph when the program starts as well as while running it. thanks again

thanks for your help ben, pictures are always great.

now I am looking for a way to refer to a plot and get information about it. i have set it up to add plots using the "plots" property node along with the "add" invoke node. My thought was to then use the "item" invoke node in the same way, but the input for "item" is a variant and i dont quite understand what it is asking for. Could someone explain how to use this, or is there a better way to go about this?

thanks again

WIre U32 or I32 to it and it will adapt. Note: the 3d graph uses "1" based numbering not "0" based so the first plot is "1".

Please post an example (with data) for others to see and learn from.

Hi,

In order to improve my application, I'm trying to import a 3D object (STL object) through the 3D Picture control evaluation software. However when I want to see it, nothing appears on the screen!
What am I missing? Does anyone have an answer?
Thanks,

PS : I join the simple VI I used but I can't join the 3D object (a plane) because the extension (.stl) is not supported by the NI website!

Hi Boris84,

Files in the STL format can cause problems, as shown in this article. Can you save the file as a different format to import?

I was not able to load any of the subVIs in your program. Are all of the camera and image subVIs custom made? If so, please post them along with your main VI so the issue can be reproduced. Are you using any other NI vision software for this such as IMAQ or

Also, it is easier to keep track of and answer your posts if you create a new thread for a new issue in the forums.

Does anybody has ever work with real mechanical object in 3D Picture Control, instead of simple primitives (cubes, spheres, etc). Because it takes to long to read the .wrl files.
