To my knowledge, this bug is not yet fixed in the LabVIEW 2009 beta. I'm not sure if it will be fixed in the release of 2009 or not.

Is this really that difficult of a bug to fix, or is it just not considered high priority? It seems to me somebody forgot to check for the shift key when you right-click on a control. I assumed it's a result of the changes for supporting setting properties for multiple objects. This is a really, really annoying bug I run into countless times a day.
I'd guess that is the case.

Is there a work around? Can the labview run menu be edited to allow a ctrl-key to bring up the tools palette? I notice there is no curent method except show tools from the menu or shift-rtclick which nolonger works. I just moved to 8.6 from 8.51 and no that I will NOT change to the auto-tool. Using shift click and tabbing as second nature.

That's funny. I am NOT a user of the autotool, and I hadn't noticed this bug yet. I tab through the tools and just don't need to bring up the tool palette very often. Pretty much the only time I bring up the palette is when I am turning the autotool off when I sit down at someone else's computer. What tool is it that you are manually switching to that you can't access through tabbing (that you use 500 times per day)?
just curious.

Move to a blank part of the screen.

Tabbing, I love the speed,

Some of us just use shift and select instead of tabbing through the tools.

Maybe the Get Color/Pick Color tool (so as to color cases/loops), while you are on the BD... ?

I just saw this reply come up so I reread the thread to remind myself of the issue. I still have not noticed the behavior in my normal workflow, but I just tried it in 8.6.1 and 2009 to see. It looks like it's been fixed. I really wasn't picking on anyone who uses LV differently then I do (I figured I was in the minority by not using the Autotool anyway). I just think it's curious to discover that people have such different ingrained ways of working in LV. To some people, this bug was egregious and noticeable within 5minutes of sitting down.. but to me, I didn't notice it for the whole year I was using 8.6.1. I think it is awesome that LV is a tool that allows that sort of flexibility.
