LabVIEW 8.6 improperly handles Shift+Right Click

Here what appears to be a rather annoying new feature/bug with LV 8.6

If I hover over any front panel or block diagram object and perform a Shift+Right Click, I would expect that the floating tools palette should pop up. What I actually get is the standard Right Click popup menu for the object I am hovering over. It is as if the interface is not reading the SHIFT key. For those of us who do not use the automatic tool selection this is quite a frustrating issue.

It took me awhile to put my finger on exactly what was happening. I initially thought the left shift key on my keyboard was getting flakey.

This was reported to LabVIEW R&D (CAR# 124550) for further investigation.  For now, the workaround is to shift-right click in empty space of the panel/diagram, which will still bring up the Tools palette.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I was so disappointed to see this wasn't fixed in 8.6.1.  This is an extermely annoying bug (although, for me at least, not as annoying as using the Autotool).  I thought this would be such an easy thing to fix, it would be a no-brainer for 8.6.1.

Matthew.....completely I agree with your sentiments.

As far as the general annoyance factor, this is right at the top of the list.

It wouldn't be quite so bad if I didn't run into this bug about 500 times every single day I work with LabVIEW.

It is one of those continually "in your face" issues.

That was the thing that really got me about this bug.  Within 5 minutes of using 8.6, I found it.  Did everyone who participated in testing of 8.6 before release use the Autotool?  I was dumbfounded that it wasn't caught before release.  Of course, if I was a conspiracy theorist, I might think NI is intentionly trying to force us into the Autotool.

I did, and I love it! Been using it since LV7.1, and never want to do
without it.

This is super irritating!!!! After using this feature for so long, because of its convenience, I have now realized how much I use it. NI fix this FAST!!!! I'm  glad others have also reported this because I've been hunting through the options to see if this was a new "feature".

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for letting us know. This should have been fixed in LabVIEW 2009. You can perform beta testing for LabVIEW 2009 at this link. Your feedback is always appreciated!
