LabVIEW Development on Surface Pro

But to be honest, converting to using auto-tool is something I've thought about over the years, and probably should force myself to be comfortable with.

I always turned it off, first thing, when getting a new version too, until the last upgrade.  At that point, I decided to use it, despite how uncomfortable it was.  But I stuck with it.

Now, I don't notice it at all, until last week, when I had to work on an old LV2009 program.

I fired up the VM which had LV2009 on it, and whoops!  Nothing is automatic. I had to go back to the tab key (it was set the old way).

Both methods are fine when you're used to them, but going back and forth is a real bear.

I wonder if this is sorta like driving a stick.  You can lean on an automatic or a stick, and you can learn the other method, but if you use one method for too long, going back can take a bit of getting used to.

If you compare the two uses to automatic vs stick shift, I gues I would be using an "auto-stick".  I normally use the auto-select mode, but I switch to manual when I need to do precision stuff, like selecting a control ref instead of activating the dropdown menu.

Hint: holding shift forces Select tool in auto mode.

Most annoying in automatic mode is that it sometimes fails when editing control in customize mode (LV2011).

Yeah even with non-auto-tool I have a hard time knowing what tool should be used and usually end up tabbing through all of them one at a time.  Maybe it's because control customization is something that isn't done often.

Hello,

are there any new experiences with the current Surface devices? I am thinking of getting a Surface Book, and I am curious if anyone uses LabVIEW with the Surface pen. Is it a viable device for LV? How can LV handle the huge screen resolution?

Well, I had a Surface Pro (original).  I never used the Pen with LabVIEW (I turned the touch-screen off and used a mouse), and I set the resolution to "half" in each dimension so I didn't need a magnifying glass.  As it happens, I keep my VI Block Diagrams small, so it wasn't a problem ...
