LabVIEW - Excel problem, error: "Property Node: Invallid property"

I am not able to run the example programs: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 6\examples\comm\ExcelExamples.llb.
After opening the .llb, all the VI's are in error mode, not runnable. When looking to e.g. "Open Excel and Make Visible.vi" the error is: "Property Node: Invallid property". The list of the possible selectable properties in the Property Node in this VI is empty. The same problem occures in all the "Property nodes" and "Invoke Nodes" of all the VI's in this llb. I have the same problem with ohter VI's I downloaded from the internet.
I am currently running Win 2000 SP 2, Office-Excel 97 RS-2 and LabVIEW 6.0.2.
Which Active-X class has to be selected ? Is it possbile to install Excel
without this Active-X component or must a specific Active-X component be installed ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

With best regards,

Hi Marc,

I am sorry that I can not list all of the issue involved because it has been a while since I saw that problem.

The issues you are running into are due to MicroSoft's decision to re-arrange things with every major release.

I do not believe you should have to do any special install of Excel to get things going.

What I think is happeneing is that you are using Excel 97 and the example is set-up for a newer version of Excel.

How to fix.
1) Contact NI support, they may have a link that will save you a lot of work.
or,
2) Update Excel
or,
3) Manually go through the example code an manually browse to the right classes and re-link. (this can be challenging if you are not familiar with activeX and Excel).

Warning! Rambling rant follows.

This "move it around" mentality drives me nuts! You sit down in front of new machine and go looking for some setting or option and what do you know, its not there any more! Have you tried to set your file associations with Windows XP lately?

Done with rant.
