I agree that would be awesome! I guess the main purpose of LV Home edition is for people to use on their hobby projects. But I actually got it to have a way to practice for certification exams and be able to upload and download from the forums while I'm at home. For both of these it would be really nice to have the most up to date version of LabVIEW. I am getting tired (and I'm sure others are too 🙂 ) of having to ask for a backsaved copy of a VI every time I download something from the forums.
Yes! And not to forget that we, as LabVIEW developers (either "occasional" or full time), we rely on our companies' license through our career. It would be incredible useful for us, if we had a Home Edition which is updated every year. In this way, we could have an own home copy to keep our knowledge up-to-date and polished to the actual version features. Any time can happen, that we have to spend a couple of years at a company, where an outdated version is used...
I would even not mind to pay a small home license fee every year to get an update...
Check the licensing agreement. If I am not mistaken you can install a copy of your company license on a home PC. Of course your company has to be Ok with this but I believe it is covered in the NI license. I do believe it stipulates you cannot use that license for commercial purposes. It can be used to work from home and for experimentation.
All that is hinged upon your ability to stay with that company. As a contractor, you have no such luxury so you have to rely on yourself.

I do so right now. I am legally allowed to use LV research and academic suits at home, I have LV2017 installed on my home PC. This option was announced at May during NIWeeks. But if I change job, and get into a place where I cannot do this, or they do not have LV license, then I am stuck with LV2014 Home Edition.

I agree. using your company license at home is not ideal but I offered it as an option in case some were unaware of the possibility. I ended up getting my own license years back and have kept it up to date. Not the cheapest but it works. I am not sure the home edition would give me everything I need anyway.

I cannot believe, after NXG update, I can still see an entry for LV 2017 Home Edition in the Licensing Wizard (and 2016, 2015 too)! 😄
NI still dangling a carrot in front of us!!!

Here is info for purchasing the home edition.

If you read the older posts, you would know that I own a copy of LV Home Edition. The problem is that, it stuck at version 2014 😄

Ah, that would be a problem.
If you were to purchase it again, would it include the latest version? I realize this is extra cost but it really isn't different than requiring the SSP to get the latest version of LabVIEW.

No, I am pretty sure NI frozen the version to 2014 for the Home Edition. They argued about the decision was made because of keeping compatibility. So LV2014 is compatible with LINX, etc, and later versions might not...

(but NI could just give us the newer versions too, since you can still run LV2014 AND LV2017 on the same machine... 🙂 )

LabVIEW 2014 is not even officially supported on Windows 10.

Yep.
Another thing to consider is beta testing. It is a legal way to temporary own a recent (next version) LabVIEW copy. As we discussed that earlier in this thread, It might easily happen that a new job place will not use any NI product. In such case for sure I wanna keep my knowledge "fresh" and up to date, and I feel beta testing would be a good way to do so...of course, beta testing is running only for a certain time interval during the calendar year, though I am not sure about the timing (and how long we can keep beta version copies on our machines legally).
