LabVIEW Home Edition???

LINX uses variable size packets, but adjusting the FTDI driver latency definetly helps (~2x improvement) I call that out in the intro tutorials.

Several things are not clear to me about the licence, features and purchase options of LV Home Edition (LV HE). Before I buy for home usage, I would like to get more info.

  1. What is the reason LV HE cannot be purchased via ni.com? Why only via Digilent Inc.? At least, as I see, they ship to Europe 🙂 (why not sending just the licence key via email???)
  2. I have found a download link at ni.com for this version, but no more info seems to be present  (http://www.ni.com/download/labview-home-bundle-2014-sp1/5103/en/)
  3. So is there a detailed feature list? I cannot find this neither at Digilent website, neither at ni.com... I would like to see something like this: http://www.ni.com/labview/buy/
  4. I see this licence does not include SSP. So no access to online teaching material I guess? In my case it is not a problem (i have access via my institute), but I just wanna know.
  5. If someone wants to extend LV HE licence next year, those must buy the package every year, or there will be some kind of upgrade fee? Anyway, I am also happy to pay 49 USD every year, this is like for free compared to the professional prices...

Thanks very much if someone from NI could give me more info!

Best Regards,

4. Without an SSP, you do not have access to the Self-Paced Online Training (LabVIEW Core 1, etc online).  There are plenty of other free tutorials that you can still access.

5. You only need to purchase it again if you want the latest version.  If you buy the LV HE 2014, you own that license forever.  You just won't have a license to use LV HE 2015 when it comes out.  I have not heard anything from NI about upgrading the license in the future.

Thanks, but the more important questions are 1-2-3, so still waiting for some explanation from NI... 🙂

I just do not get how it is possible that it looks like they did not prepare properly for this product launch? I mean the lack of info, or is it intentional? Kind of "guerrilla marketing"? 🙂

On the plus side I don't see the ugly watermarks on the front panel like in the student, or evaluation versions.

So you already got one home edition installed? 🙂

Sorry I was basing my assumptions on the screenshots shown on that page.  Which to be fair might not be the home edition, but would be a little bit of false advertising if it isn't.

Blokk,

  1. We're working with partners like Digilent to create low cost, maker friendly hardware bundles with LabVIEW Home to help provide the best getting started experience possible for new users.  We decided not to sell LabVIEW Home through NI.com at this point because we were not able to create the web experience we wanted in the timeframe we set for the LabVIEW Home release.
  2. I'll share a link to the NI 'product page' shortly (just waiting for it to go live again).  I was super excited to share the news as soon as Digilent's page went live.
  3. The LabVIEW Home Bundle includes:
         LabVIEW Full Development System
LabVIEW Control Design and Simulation Module
         LabVIEW MathScript RT Module

All licensed for non-commercial use.  There is no 'expiration'.  There is a LabVIEW Home Edition watermark.

  4. We're working on training specifically designed for makers using LabVIEW on the LabVIEW MakerHub website.  We already have a start on LabVIEW Basics and tutorial series for the upcoming Digilent and Sparkfun Bundles and we have plans for a lot more.
  5. For simplicity, the current plan is for LabVIEW Home to remain on 2014 SP1 for a while, but this is something we're still evaluating.

Thanks!
