Hello,
I would like to work towards an NI CLAD cerfification. I started working with LabVIEW only recently (Student Edition 8.2).
What approach and resources (online, books) do you recommend?
Thank you

Hi MCU
NI has a dedicated page on NI CLAD certification https://learn.ni.com/pages/certified-labview-associate-developer
You may also have a look at Darren's Weekly Nugget 02/09/2009
Good luck with CLAD I passed it last year it was easy.

The key is to get a well-rounded education. For that I would recommend taking the LV Basics I and II classes.

Hello,
Since I am learning on a budget I cannot take the Basics courses (around ~2000 GBP if I looked at the right ones).
Is there online material or books that you recommend and give CLAD-orientated learning?
Thank you

Hi MCU
I have learned how to use LabVIEW by “doing” not through classes because I was broke a bit like you. I came across a few books and training materials from NI though .
A couple years ago I was doing an internship in UK. I had to use labview and got in touch with NI. They sent me a complementary training CD I guess you can get it too. It is basic but it may interest you. I liked it.

You can also have a look at http://www.ni.com/academic/lv_training/how_learn_lv.htm
I remember I couldn’t do the exercises because you need equipments.
As for the books I had two:
LabVIEW Graphical Programming By Gary W. Johnson
It looks good for beginners but it actually mostly describes the development history and the intricacies of the functionality of Labview. The print screens are outdated (they’ve been made with an old version of mac OS). I don’t recommend this book.
The LabVIEW Style Book by Peter A. Blume It is a practical guidelines for optimizing your code. When you start using LabVIEW you tend to do “spaghetti” code. This book brings you to a higher level by teaching you with clear graphical example how you can have a code that is simple, performant, easily readable and maintainable. I liked this book a lot. The only thing that bugs me in this book is that it is not in color but it does the job anyway.
I made nice progress with it but it may be a bit too much to start if you’re a beginner.
Hope this helps a bit

Hi MCU,
You can take the exam for free at NIdays or another type of exhibition organized by NI.
I took the exam in Californie for free. According to NI web site the value in UK for taking the CLAD exam is £89.
Check NI web site for further information. https://www.ni.com/en/shop/services/education-services/certification-program.html
If you can't wait for beeing certified you can also go to a Pearson VUE testing centers at www.pearsonvue.com/ni In this case you'll probably pay.
Cheers
