LabVIEW RT and network traffic

Hi everybody!
First of all, sorry for my english, i'm an italian student.. Smiley Wink
I would like to know what services are active in LabVIEW RT to manage the network traffic over Ethernet.
Now I will explain better.
Windows XP uses services and protocols like NetBIOS,  SMB, WINS, IGMP to communicate over a local area network. Windows sends messagges over the network in broadcast or multicast that may overload the network. In my application, I need a clear network, without this services.
Moreover, I use LabVIEW RT. Then, I would like to know how services and messagges (that can be useless for me) are active in RT.
Thanks very much!!!

Alessio,

RT targets have several ports they listen on, but they generally don't send any network traffic unless they are responding to an outside request.  The only exception to that rule I can think of is the DHCP client if you configure the target to get its IP address via DHCP.  If you use a static IP address, this does not apply.

Are you concerned only about network traffic initiated by the RT target or are you also worried about things the RT target will respond to from other computers?

First of all,
thanks for your fast reply.
I'm interested in the whole traffic, also in the traffic generated by the answer of RT target.
For example, i would like to know if there are services in LabVIEW RT regarding file sharing and UPnP.
Thank you!

Which services are present depends on which version of LabVIEW RT you are using.  Services that are common in all versions:

FTP server
Device discovery server - this is what allows RT targets to show up in MAX under remote devices
LabVIEW - the data that is sent when you connect to the target from host LabVIEW and view front panels, download VIs, etc
VI Server - if you have enabled network access to VI server on your target, the target will respond to remote VI server requests
Web server - if you have enabled the web server on the target

When you install software on your target, if you only install the LabVIEW component (and its dependencies) and nothing else, I don't think there will be any other network services running.  But it is possible I'm forgetting some.  One optional component you can install that will listen on network ports is the Shared Variable Engine (only available in RT 8.0 and later).

If your target is a fieldpoint, I believe there are some more services running as well, but I'm not very familiar with the details.
