And can you remember how fast was the CPU and what were the OS and RAM sizes ?

NO I can't answer with confidence any of those questions. Smiley Sad

I THINK

1.2 Mhz CPU (IBM PC upgrade to PC-AT) had a connector on the back for "Casette" storage.

DOS 2.1 (?)

64 128 or 256K (?) My first guess would be 64K.

Failing memory make me repeat, these are my best guesses of the spec of the frist "IBM-PC" that I payed with.

Do these numbers seem right?

What are your memories of that period when...

Q: Do you want a color monitor with that PC?
A: Yes!
Q: Would you prefer green or amber?

Smiley Surprised

was the norm?

I think, that the clock speed was 4 point something Mhz..... but it was a terribly long time ago.....

Computing was strange then and dare I say mainly a male preserve; probably as the damm things were so heavy. Check out the P.C. brochure here, just like at our house, the kid is hogging the thingSmiley Wink.... how little things change. http://archive.computerhistory.org/resources/text/IBM/IBM.PC.1983.102646177.pdf

I should add that the company I work at now has a ratio of 50/50 male to female engineers a big move from none when I started working. The place is much more pleasent to work in, though the dynamics are somewhat different.

The early Macs ran at 8 MHz on the 68000 processor. The first Mac had two floppy drives, no hard drive, and 128 KB (kilobytes, not megabytes) of RAM with no expansion option. The LV manual for version 1.2 says it will run on the 2-floppy Macs but with severe limitations on saving files. I think the earliest version I used was on a Mac SE which had a 40 MB hard drive and 1 or 2 MB of RAM. The processor clock was still 8 MHz.

Hi,

My first experience with LabVIEW was with Version 6.1 student edition. The project given to me as a trainee in the DRDO Research Centre, India was to try and communicate with a 7 ft. tall device with a VXI fitted. The instrument was a 1995 make with no support for LabVIEW. I just had a C code which could communicate with the Device. Moreover the supporting PC card worked on 1553 bus. It was a bad experience trying to communicate with the device. It almost looked like "Programming the Impossible". But in doing the project I learnt LabVIEW in a better way than I would have if given all the drivers for the device. Great experience!!!

Whoa,

Hold on a minute while I re-adjust my reality......

"That was what my wife said and I made the misatke of not listening!"

Your WIFE told you that?  There are times I wish there were more technically versed women around, but then I don't want to fall into the old Dr. Higgins "Why can't a woman be more like a man?" role. (Plus I can't sing)

As for rule #1.  It's not supposed to sink in.  That's the lever Women use to make you perpetually feel guilty so that they can work their womanly ways.  Me, cynical, not a bit (But maybe a byte)!

I'm going now before I talk any more rubbish.

Shane.

Shane asked,

"Your WIFE told you that? "

Yes, it was HER PC. She's a real gem. I found her in a computer room. She was managing a PDP 11/70 running RSX-11M+.

I took her see Pitts computer center for our first valentines day. She loved it.
