LabVIEW data acquisition systems

I am currently using LabVIEW 5 on a computer running Windows 2000. The cord connecting the Data Acquisition System and the computer is bulky and outdated. I was wondering if I could use LabVIEW 5 components with a newer version of LV and if simply switing the connector cord would solve my issues?

What type of data acquisition system and what type of cord? Make and model numbers?

If you decide to upgrade your version of LabVIEW, you will have to first convert your current VIs to an intermediate version. The current version of LabVIEW will not load version 5 VIs. You can see here what versions will open your VIs and what versions that LabVIEW 2009 can open. If you do not have an intermediate version, you can post some code here and ask for help in converting or contact your local Sales Engineer and ask if you can get one of the intermediate versions so you can do the conversion yourself.

Okay... my next question.  I believe I have a parallel port connector to hook my DAQ up to my CPU, but when I update I will only have a USB port.  Will a parallel to USB adapter be sufficient to convert the current DAQ to a newer computer or will it be more difficult than that?

What do you mean 'I believe'. This should be a known and you should also know the type of DAQ - make and model. Why won't you answer?
