Hi all,
I know everyone complains about LabVIEW being slow, but recently I've been experiencing freezing that is getting quite annoying.
Run LabVIEW
Getting Started screen appears in <15s
LabVIEW freezes (completely non-responsive) and remains totally frozen for anywhere from 1 to 3 mins
Clicking "blank VI" comes up instantly
But switching to the block diagram for the first time throws it into another round of freezing for about a minute.
But if I try to open the project I'm working on, the splash screen takes 30s (I'm fine with that, it uses MATLAB script nodes), but it then takes over a minute to open the block diagram, after which it freezes for another minute or two.
After this initial freezing is done, LabVIEW works fine. But it happens every single time I load a new instance of LabVIEW, which is immensely frustrating. Especially since we're developing low-level data processing DLLs so crashes several times a day are sort of a given.
This is new behaviour in the past few days, and I can't think of what has changed to cause it.
I tried this workaround to no effect: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/18E25101F0839C6286256F960061B282?OpenDocument
No source control, LabVIEW 2010SP1, site license, Win7 enterprise, Core 2 Duo 3.33GHz, 8GB RAM
Any ideas? Really don't want to have to reinstall LV compeletely since we have a LOT of addons/customisations.
Cheers,
Martijn

I got a couple shotgun ideas, no promises, just things to look at...
1) Is there a network connection on the computer, if so does it change things if you unplug it before starting LV?
2) How are your menus configured? Do they populate when launching oir as needed?
3) How big are your user menus in LV?
4) You said you have a lot of add-ons and customizations. What sort? Can you elaborate?
5) Does there seem to be any correlation to time of day? (Once had a network admin who though it was a good idea to run network backups AND virus scans everyday at noon. "Hey, everybody's at lunch right?")
6) Have you looked at the process monitor to see if something other than LV is using a lot of bandwidth?
