Labview 8.5 No longer able to start application builder.

Solved!
Go to solution

I've used Labview pro 8.5 for a number of years. Same computer, same installation. The application builder has always worked. Recently, when I select Build Specifications, New, Application(EXE), the hour glass comes up for a few seconds and then just goes away. I can no longer make a new .exe. Even from old projects.

I've reinstalled Labview, Ran the license manager.

One note is that I can create new installer Build Specifiations (Just can't build the installer becasue I can't make an .exe)

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Rich,

did you speak with your local NI support?

Did you check the LicenseManager for the activation of the AppBuilder?

Best regards,
GerdW

Hi Rich,

Have you had any recent updates on your computer (drivers, OS)?

Hi Angela,

Yes, Windows update came in and 'fixed' my computer for me. I always run with Windows update off though, unfortunately, something always manages to turn it on again. (Never me! 🙂 )

Not sure when the application builder quit coming up, though, yes, it was around this time frame. I did a complete reinstall of Labview 8.5 to try to get around this, with no luck.

I would hope Microsoft would get the idea that some people actually use their computers to do actual work and when they come in and mess with a computer that works great, it many times often no longer works at all. Though, I'm told that it's not a good thing to count on an impossible hope....

Enough of that. I don't have plans to roll back the myriad of changes they made. I thought it would work to reinstall Labview. Next plan is to wipe out everything Labview application related on the computer, rather than just an uninstall. And reinstall.

Is there a program that will completely remove Labview?

Thanks,

-Rich

Hi Rich,

Not that I know of, but here's a forum post that may help.

How to remove (uninstall NI software completely)

It may be that the Windows and LabVIEW versions are no longer compatible after the update and you may need to upgrade LabVIEW. I also found a discussion forum post that describes a similar problem, please take a look.

Hi Angela,

This seems like a good reason to upgrade. Just a note: The post from the link in your email that describes the way to completely remove Labview from a computer has had it's attachements removed. It would have been nice, over the years, to have an application that does remove leavings from all the Labview Development versions on my computer.

I'll check out a couple of other items to try then probably upgrade.

Thanks for all of your time!
