I have installed Labview (as well as NI-DAQmx drivers) on Windows 7 for the first time.
I notice the installation resulted in creation of some folders in the Windows 7 public folder:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\National Instruments\CVI
C:\Users\Public\Documents\National Instruments\NI-DAQ
C:\Users\Public\Documents\National Instruments\NI-IMAQ
I'm not experienced with either Labview or Windows 7.
My understanding of the Windows 7 public folder is that one cannot fine tune permissions within it (e.g. give guests read only access to certain folders).
What would the consequences be of a user of the guest account messing up the contents of C:\Users\Public\Documents\National Instruments\?
Would it affect use of Labview for those with their own user profiles?
Thanks

Those folders are not created by the LabVIEW installation, as far as I know. I have LabVIEW (several versions)) installed on Windows 7 and none of them created those folders. The NI-DAQ folder would have come from the installation of the DAQ software, and the NI-IMAQ folder would have come from the installation of NI-IMAQ. The CVI folder could have been created by either one of these.
As far as the Public Documents folder, it's just a way to share files and/or folders for multiple user accounts. I don't believe anything critical is stored in there. You can read more here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Sharing-files-with-the-Public-folder

Thanks.
Yes, this content may well have resulted from other installers on the Labview CD, or NI-DAQmx CD which I ran immediately after. I was not selective in what was installed.
I do actually have an application installed on my computer which does (annoyingly) store content (albeit non-critical, e.g. templates etc) that is shared across users in the public documents folder. Inadvertent modification of these (e.g. by a nosy user of the guest account) would affect all users of the computer.
This is why I just wanted to check whether or not NI does the same (store content there that that affects the experience for all users).
