Labview for PDA (Pocket PC 2003) setup

I am writing a PDA application. I've done it before, but I'm having a problem setting my new laptop up to compile the application for a PDA. During the project creation the wizard asks what the target platform is. Before, it gave me a choice betweeen "Pocket PC 2003" or "Pocket PC emulator". Now, all I get is "No available devices".

Any ideas on how I get the labview software on my laptop to recognize that I need to compile for a Pocket PC 2003?

One other thing. When I select "Configure Pocket PC Devices" from the Tools menu, nothing happens. No popup, no nothing.

Did you by any chance upgrade from LabVIEW 8.5 to 8.5.1?  I think that there was also an update for the PDA module that I could not find on the NI website or FTP site.  I did not need to build any PDA code while I was waiting for the CDs to arrive, but I am not sure what updating one without the other would do.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the tutorial, I've read it and tried to follow it.  My problem is that when I use the PDA project creation wizard "No available devices" appears in the "select device type" pulldown menu.  How do I get Labview to recognize that there is a PDA with a CF-6004 A2D in it?  ActiveSync is working correctly.  Measurement and Automation Explorer does not show the PDA either.  I know it's something simple that I am missing.

Hi,

I am not sure about the Project wizard but how about doing it manually? Start with a regular empty project, right-click the project title at the top of the list (in the project explorer) and select New » Targets and Devices. In the new window that comes up, make sure "Existing target or Device"  is selected, and then select the TYPE of PDA you are using from the PDA folder. You will not see your specific PDA model in this list, you will see a list of generic PDA's and emulators based on the operating system they use. You need to select either a Windows Mobile Device or a Windows Pocket PC device, depending on the OS of your PDA.

As a side note, MAX does not have anything to do with PDA's so it is not expected that you will see a PDA appear in MAX.

When I right click on the Project Title the only thing I get when selecting New is "Folders".  "New Target or Device" is not present for selection.

That means you don't have the PDA module installed. Can you reinstall it and see if it shows up? Keep in mind that the version of the PDA module has to match the version of LabVIEW you are using.

I originally had LV 8.2 on this machine.  When I went to load "Labview PDA Module for Pocket PC", which is version 8.0, I got a message during the install that said I had to have LV 8.0 loaded.  I have 8.0 so I loaded it and then the PDA Module seemed to successfully load as well. 

I just tried to reload Pocket PC Module again and it told me "No software will be installed" meaning it is already installed.  There was a "Installation complete" indication afterwards.

When I open LV 8.2 and look at the "Getting Started" window there is no PDA project option, but in LV 8.0 there is.  At this point I still cannot select any targets or devices.

I appreciate your time.  I have a local rep visiting tomorrow and hope that he can figure out what I'm doing wrong.  If you have any other suggestions I am all ears.

Jeff,

The fact that the PDA module installer tells you that "No Software will be installed" is because it is already installed. I do think that there might have been a problem during the installation. Can you try un-installing the PDA module completely and try to reinstall it. If the installer asks you where you want to install, make sure you select the LV 8.0 directory.
