Labview icons - smaller - nicer

Hello
Sometimes I need to create small icons like standard increment or
division. They have special shape and size which makes diagram
friendly and easy to follow. When I create my own vi it has
always rectangular icon. I can edit the picture on the icon, but
I can not edit the shape of the icon. Is there any way to do it?
thanks in advance.

Hello, Pawel

You can draw in icon editor small icon as you want.
If you don't create terminals so you will see exactly small icon with your shape in diagram. But if you connect terminals, icon must cover also places of connections to terminals. So when you draw your custom icon, select "Show terminals" option of Icon Editor and draw correspondly to your teminals.

Hi,

If you copy the 256 color icon to 16 and B & W, all excluded white areas
become invisable. However, when you click on such a white area, the VI is
still selected. This cannot be prevented.

An article about this was published in an issue of LTR, maybe it's published
online...

Be carefull; using this technique can confuse other people (esp. beginners)
when they use the code. (VI's may not be recognised as VI's, clicking wires
doesn't seem to work, clicking a vi selects another transparent VI, etc.)

Regards,

Wiebe.

Hi Wiebe
Yes, that is correct, I have noticed this. Could you pass me the
vol. and number of LTR I am sure I have it.
thanks

This is a very nice example, thank you, but I have noticed that
it behaves as it has the outline corresponding to the big icon. I
means when I have mouse over the square (the basic one) it
indicates that this is this object. Unlike in original Labview
vi, like increment or multiplier, the object is selected after
direct pointing it with the mouse on the draw area not on the
outline.
But I think this technique is satisfactory for me anyway. So
thank you all, a lot.
best regards

Hi, Pawel

increment or multiplier are not VI's. This is built in LabVIEW code, exactly as images of different LabVIEW structures or wires.

It's Volume 8, Number 4, page 16

Wiebe.

How do you know they are not! Any VI can be turned into something like
"increment" function, which can be opened. One NI engineer said that,
but he didn't say (or didn't want to say) how.
