MAX cant connect to sbRIO-9636, possibly blocked by RT startup application?

Solved!
Go to solution

I inherited a 9636 that was previously set up in some kind of experiment, no idea of the details.  The IP and device type shows up in MAX but it does not connect.  I tried holding the reset button while powered on, since it will still not connect my theory is it is booting into a startup program that blocks connecting to MAX on the network.  I see there is a process to restore all factory default software but that seems a bit extreme and I'm not sure about getting the correct restore file.

Question, without having a network connection, is there another way to bypass booting to the startup application so it will go into search for network connections mode?  Or other pointers to get connected

Thanks  for reading.

Do you have access to the manual for this Single-Board RIO?  It discusses how to get MAX to boot this up in Safe Mode.  You may need to figure out what versions of LabVIEW support this device (for example, is it still supported in LabVIEW 2021?  I haven't looked it up, but you should ...).

Once you have loaded a LabVIEW version that supports this Board, and have loaded the appropriate Drivers, you should be able to access it by MAX.  My experience with LabVIEW RT hardware products (PXI, Video, Rio) generally involved updating the LabVIEW RT software (and sometimes the firmware) on the Hardware, all of which MAX usually can do.

Thank you for promptly pointing out safe mode and discussing drivers, that is a very good answer to my question.

Note, the trick that seemed to get me over the finish line was putting it in safe mode while already in safe mode, to prompt for DHCP.  After doing that and normal power up, MAX connected successfully on 169,254,X,X, whereas before the device showed a fixed IP address and MAX was not connecting.
