MAX folders don't expand

When I install Traditional DAQ, the folders visible in MAX won't expand; I click on the plus sign, and the plus sign disappears, but the folder doesn't open. This includes the software folder, so I can't even see what version of Traditional DAQ I have.

If I then install a PCI-DIO-32HS (a product that's been in NI's lineup for years), MAX doesn't see it (the Devices and Interfaces folder doesn't open), and our app doesn't see it.

This happens with Traditional DAQ version 7.4.1 and version 7.3.0.

I know for a fact that our app works, that this computer works, and that this board works. Something happened between uninstalling all the NI software and reinstalling it. (I'm testing an installation procedure.)

The computer is running Windows XP. Traditional DAQ 7.4.1 was working on it before.

Thanks,

Hey Ron,

Have you tried to see if there are any problems with the board in Windows Device Manager.  I had a similar problem on a PXI Chassis recently where I could not see some boards in MAX.  I found that they were not properly recognized (they had the big yellow circle with the black x next to them) and unistalling them followed by searching for new hardware seemed to fix the problem.  Just a thought.

Cheers, m

Thanks for getting back so fast. In answer to your question:

  • The Device Manager does not show any problems with the board.
  • The problem (I can't look inside MAX folders) appears before I even put the board in the computer.
  • The problem applies to other folders in MAX, like Software. I should be able to look in there regardless of whether I have any hardware installed, but MAX won't even let me open it; I click the plus sign, the plus sign disappears, and the Software folder doesn't open.

New information. We tried installing DAQmx 8.3. This installed MAX 4.1. Now when we click on the plus sign next to a MAX folder (e.g. Devices and Interfaces), we get a dialog box entitled "MAX Database Connection Error", and containing the following text:

There was a problem connecting to the database.

Please restart your computer and contact National Instruments if the problem persists.

And as before, the plus sign disappears.

On restart, we get a dialog box entited "nidevmon.exe - Application Error", and containing the following text:

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002). Click on OK to terminate the application.

We found this document:

How Do I Clean Corrupted MAX Database and Start With a New One?

The procedure it outlines didn't help.

This definitely sounds like a database corruption error, and the steps in the article you linked help in the vast majority of cases, so please make sure to follow the steps carefully.

Are you followed the steps exactly and you're still having the problem, are you seeing the exact same problems as before (MAX categories not expanding, etc)?

Is there any reason you upgraded to 8.3 as opposed to the newest version of DAQmx?

You say you reinstalled all NI software. Did you install the exact same software that you had? What was different? Make sure to install all the drivers after you install Labview and its toolkits and modules.
