Measurement & Automation Explorer Crashes while Loading

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello,

I recently bought a DAQ board (PCI-6239). I installed the NI-DAQmx that came with it and followed the steps of installation. When I was at the point of opening the Measurement & Automation Explorer to detect my board, it crashed during the loading at the "Loading plug-ins" and prompted the error message "M&A E has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost."

I tried repairing, reinstalling and updating all the related NI softwares. Nothing worked. I uninstalled LabView in case there was an error with it and reinstalling DAQmx again. Nothing of this worked. I am wondering if this is a known issue or if there is some sort of problem with my OS/system. I am using Win XP SP3.

I did not try opening the software after uninstalling the PCI board, but that would not help me much if the software only works without the card.

Thank you,

Hi Patrick,

What version of LabVIEW do you have installed?  Also, what version of DAQmx have you installed as well as what version of MAX?  It might be that there was an issue with the version of DAQmx that you have installed and that a newer version of DAQmx and MAX will resolve the issue.  Here is the link for the latest version of DAQmx driver and MAX.

Hello Adam,

I think the version of LabView was 8.4, but I would have to confirm with the computer technicians here, which are unavailable this week. However, the program did not launch even after I uninstalled LabView from the computer, so I think that either the problem is not linked to LabView or either installing it corrupted some files in my computer, but I am not so sure of that.

As for the DAQmx, I received a CD with my Data Acquisition Board with version 8.9.5 on it. After I noticed it was not working, I went on your website and installed the newest version, which did not solve my problem.

Thanks for your help,

Hi Patrick,

You mentioned you are using Windows XP, is it 32-bit or 64-bit?  Was it DAQmx 9.2 that you tried to install?  You also mentioned that you tried to reinstall or repair all National Instruments programs.  Did you completely uninstall Measurement and Automation Explorer and then reinstall?  If yes, then it sounds like your MAX database might have become corrupted by a system crash or inproper installation.  Here is a KnowledgeBase article that walks through the procedure for addressing this issue.

It is a 32 bit. When I tried to repair the programs, I used the "repair" option first, but then, seeing no difference, I completely uninstalled and reinstalled my NI programs. When it did not work, I completely uninstalled the MAX I had and installed the updated version 9.1 from your website. It still was not opening and crashing at the same location (Loading of "Plug-ins").

I will try to see if I can repair the MAX database using the procedure described in the article and I will let you know who this goes.

Thanks a lot,

The corrupted Data base fixer did not work. I'll try to get my OS reinstall.

Hi CHG Patrick,

Thank you for the update on the issue, and please let me know how the OS reload goes.  This is the next logical step in the process.

Adam,

I had the OS reinstalled along with LabView 8.2 (it seems this is the available license for the moment at our university). I downloaded the newest version of the drivers and now everything seems to be working fine. From this point, our lab tech should be able to guide me on how to do the "connection" between my DAQ card in MAX and my LabView VI's.

Thanks for your help!
