Motherboard recommendation for RT?

Can anyone recommend a good motherboard that is compatible with RT? I'm thinking dual/quad-core, parallel ATA, compatible ethernet chip, >=3 PCI slots. A specific model someone has tried that works would be ideal.

Thanks!

Ben

I am looking into this my self. I found some tips in the links below

http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/2733

Requirements for Desktop PCs as LabVIEW Real-Time Targets.

Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted
(Sorry no Labview "brag list" so far)

We have been having a heck of a time getting a PC to work as a real-time target. NI does *not* make this easy. We have assembled the following system, which by all the guidelines should work. It did initially, but now the USB test program hangs at "Transferring to user control". Anyone have any ideas?

ASUS P5GC-VM Motherboard
Socket 775 Intel Core 2 Duo, E8400, 3GHz
2GB DDR2-800 Memory (Matched Pair)
Western Digital IDE 160GB HDD, 7200
Intel Pro 100/S Network Adapter

Hello przemmo,

After reviewing this forum, there are several links about that go into some detail about how to choose your motherboard, processor, etc like Requirements for Desktop PCs as LabVIEW Real-Time Targets. Have you looked into this information?

Why? The requirements document states that PCI BIOS Support is only required for LV 8.2.1 or earlier.

I tried to use 2 mainboards for LV 8.5 RT about half a year ago. Both didn't work, even though the system fulfilled all the requirements.

I think the only way is to choose a system that meets the requirements and then test it. This is a pain...

There's several threads about this in this forum, e.g. this one.

Hello Dan,

In order to simplify matters with this, I have looked into seeing what we have found that works and I have listed the specifications below. This isn't considered to be a supported option but it might simplify matters when choosing a system.

Out-of-the-Box Solution:

Dell Precision T3500 Workstation

2.4 GHz Intel Core2 Quad CPU

2.0 GB (Dell standard) RAM

List to Buy Single components:

Motherboards:

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel® Desktop Board DH55HC

CPU:

Intel® Core™ i7-860 processor
Intel® Core™ i3-530 processor

Network Interface Cards:

Intel PRO/1000 GT

Intel PRO/1000 PT

I hope this information helps with building your RT PC.

Hello przemmo,

As for these requirements, I would consult the Requirements for Desktop PCs as LabVIEW Real-Time Targets and it discusses in detail about how much RAM is supported by Real Time OS and which type of hard drive is supported as well. I hope this information helps you.
