Multicolumn Listbox cell "focus box" in LV 8.20

I'm seeing the same problem where the "focus box" does not follow the programmatically set value of the multicolumn listbox.  The simulated mouse click workaround won't work for my case.  Is this considered a bug?  Have you filed a CAR for it?  Or has R&D stated that this is the expected behavior?

Here's an example of the incorrect behavior.  Use the arrow keys to move the highlighted row up and down.  I'm programmatically skipping row 4 by setting the value of the multicolumn listbox.  The highlighted row moves correctly, but the "focus box" doesn't follow it.

This was reported to R&D (# 4B8EJDLJ) for further investigation.  Is there a specific reason why the mouse click workaround will not work for you?
