I know this is an old thread, but the symptoms are virtually identical to my own problem, and this one wasn't solved completely.
I'm using a PXI-1042 chassis, PXI-8196 controller (I've tested on 2 identical systems, both < 1 year old, with the same results).
We've installed a 2nd video card (cPCI-8217 from Adlink Technology Inc.) in order to use 2 monitors. Everytime I try to do a cold boot (after system has been powered down for about 30 minutes or more) it hangs on the XP start-up screen. Powering down and then booting again works fine. After that I can restart or shut-down and reboot all I want without any problems. But if the PXI chassis is without power for aproximately 30 minutes, the next boot attempt will hang. This is repeatable on 2 PXI systems, using 3 different (all new) video cards.
If I disable the built-in video adapter, it boots fine every time. But we need 2 display monitors. I could switch to a dual-output Kontron video card (and simply not use the built-in video), but we have 6 of these systems and already have the cPCI-8217 cards purchased (so that's not the preferrable solution).
I've tried updating drivers (using the latest from the Adlink web-site vs. the one XP initially installs), but that didn't work. I tried doing all the Windows XP updates, but that didn't work. I'm at a loss of what to try next. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ken
