Hi data,

install LabVIEW on your new PC and activate it with your serial number.

That's ok for NI in most cases.

When there are problems: discuss any licensing issues with your local NI sales rep!

  •  For the most common LV license type, this takes away one of your three computers it can be used for because the SN will still be associated with the dead PC.

  • That's the best way to do it.

Is this association actually maintained anywhere (i.e. in NI's records) or enforced? I've gotten the impression the three computer limit was basically on the honor system, because I'm sure that I've installed LabVIEW more than three times over the years due to computer replacements and wipes/Windows reinstalls, and I've never encountered any problems or questions from NI about it.

Hi arteitle,

that's my impression too. (Because of that I wrote "That's ok for NI in most cases.")

Surely NI will recognize when your SN will be used to activate LabVIEW more often than just 3 times in a short period of time and they will act, when they recognize such behaviour.

But in (German big company) business usage it's normal to get a new PC every 3 years (in my company its just 2 years 10 month due to leasing&tax regulations) - and I have two computers on my desk, each with a valid LabVIEW installation…

Best regards,
GerdW
