NI 9482 "Unsupported Module" error

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi I recently purchased another relay module for my cDAQ-9178 chassis. My older relay modules (NI 9481) work fine. But the newer NI 9482 comes up with an "Unsupported Module" error in NI MAX. I also can't seem to communicate with it in Labview. I'm running Labview 2010 and it's associated NI MAX version, could this be the cause? I find it hard to imagine a simple relay module being an "unsupported device."

Thanks

Ryan

Using a 10 year old version of LabVIEW with also 10 year old DAQmx is most likely the reason!

I found this manual for your NI9482, and it is from 2013 - 3 years younger than your installed software. This should be the reason for the "unsupported module" error.

(You might either search the DAQmx manual to read up the supported hardware changes for each version since LV2010 - or call the NI support and ask them…)

Best regards,

GerdW thanks for the response. I saw the 2013 date in the manual also, only after purchasing of course. My next course of action would be looking at driver info as you suggested. Last time I tried getting a hold of NI they wouldn't answer any questions until I updated my SSP membership.  😉

Thanks again

Install DAQmx version 9.9.  It is the latest version of DAQmx that still supports LV 2010.

(Reference the page https://www.ni.com/en-us/support/documentation/compatibility/16/ni-daqmx-and-labview-compatibility.h...and download the .xls at the bottom which lists older versions of LabVIEW.)

Since DAQmx 9.9 was the first to support LV 2014, that seems like it would probably have support for a DAQ module released in 2013.

RavensFan, I concur! I was going through the list of readme files for each DAQmx version when I received your message. The highest version I found while still supporting LV2010 was 9.9 also. In the readme file for 9.9 it lists both the NI 9481 and NI 9482 as being supported hardware. I will see if this fixes the issue.

Thanks

"Updated" to 9.9 and that fixed the issue. Labview and NIMax both recognize the module now.

Thanks for steering me in the right direction.
