NI PXI-8110 is not visible in NI MAX on Windows 10

I've made a crossover UTP cable to connect a PXI target to my PC. The PXI is not visible neither in Devices and Interfaces nor in Remote systems. The PXI is running Windows XP. 4 months ago I tried the same with a router involved, without success.

I've tried:

  • "Create New..." > "Network NI-DAQmx Devices" which found nothing.
  • "Create New..." in Remote Systems which found nothing too.
  • The Act/Link LED is on and sometimes blinks off.
  • "Troubleshoot Remote System Discovery" in Remote systems, where I specified the IP address and which shows that nothing is blocked by firewall. IP address of my PC is static 169.254.1.1 and target has static 169.254.1.2, even though they were on the same subnet automatically. The adapter on my PC is set to acquire IPv4 address automatically (DHCP).
  • I can ping the target from host and vice versa.
  • I turned off the firewall on the Target completely.
  • The Host has Measurement & Automation Explorer allowed through Windows Defender Firewall in Domain and Private network. Currently I can't check the option Public due to IT restrictments. Actually in the Allowed Apps, Measurement & Automation Explorer is listed twice but one of the lines is grey. (?) I successfully controlled CompactRIO targets from this host PC before.
  • I changed the Network Category to Private. At least I hope I did - I had to change it in registry, where I found the Profile with ProfileName "DIRECT-'computer_name'" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\Profiles\. I couldn't find this in Settings>Network & Internet>Ethernet
  • The Host has Measurement & Automation Explorer in a list of Inbound rules twice (TCP and UDP) and it is not present in Outbound rules.
  • I tried resetting the IP settings in BIOS as advised in a knowledgebase article.
  • Computer has DAQmx drivers installed, target has NI MAX 15.3 installed.

What did I miss?
