NI Pal Service Manager memory error on pc startup

Hello,

I have two XP-pc's with NI-488.2 (ver. 2.30) and MAX (ver. 4.0.0.3010) installed.

Both pc's give on startup an nipalsm.exe memory error (see attachment).

When starting MAX, (if no error) no installed hardware is shown.

On both pc's also McAfee Virusscan 8.00 is running.

What does nipalsm.exe (internal) that can cause this error ?

With thanks,

       best regards,

Hi,

I have some suggestions for you:

Try the latest driver, version 2.4:

http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/websearch/1DDE5C48F30C2C658625702000681295?opendocument&node=132060_US

---> Don't install the new driver over the other one. First remove the old one.

Are you testing the same GPIB card in both PCs? If yes, does the error occur without any cards plugged-in?

Try a Repair of MAX in Add/Remove programs

Make sure that you install first the driver without the card plugged-in.

Check if no firewall is blocking the nipalsm.exe. Maybe you can check if the error occurs when you have no McAfee software installed. (I don't think that the problem is caused by the MCAfee soft but I haven't tested it yet with the latest version)

Regards.

Hello Joris,

thank you for your answer.

I'm using an external USB-GPIB-interface and the error happens with and without the interface plugged-in.

I'll try out your suggestions and come back with the results.

Best regards,

Hello,

as promised..... I've tried different installation sequences without and with the USB-GPIB-interface connected, no succes (yet).

The error is still there and MAX doesn't show the USB-GPIB-interface.

Using the GPIB-commands from own written software using the gpib32 dll, all works well.

I've removed all NI software, even "cleaned" the registry, reinstalled, repaired,...

The latest installation (Labview 8.0 demo and 488 2.4) doesn't show in the add/remove software any more.

I prob. better ask our IT-department to do a complete format of this PC ?

Does there exist a flow on how to install the Labview 8.0 demo, 488 2.4 and other NI-software ?

With thanks,

       best regards,

         Geert

Hi,

Isn't the software listed under National Instruments Software in Add/Remove Programs?

You could try it with a clean OS. The best way to install the software is by first installing the real NI modules like LabVIEW 8, LabVIEW Real-Time,... and afterwards the driver software. Afterwards, plug-in the hardware.

If this still doesn't work than send me a detailled description of you system. BIOS information, PC model information, Service Pack version?

Regards.

Hello Joris,

during the different sequences (after installing), sometimes I have no National Instruments in the "add/remove software" or National Instruments is displayed and showes all NI-software that already has been installed (even the NI-software removed in the mean time) on this pc.

I'll go for the format and OS reinstall before installing NI-software again.

With thanks,

    best regards,

       Geert
