Hello,
If the datasheet says that the system needs 24V and 48W, you never can use your power supply.
The problem it's not on the voltage. Your power supply should give 48/24=2A. Since it only gives 0,5A you can turn on the CRIO.

Here are the power specifications from the 9074 manual.
Power Requirements
Recommended power supply ................. 48 W, 24 VDC
Power consumption................................ 20 W maximum
Power supply input range....................... 19 to 30 V
Also from the maual it states that the cRIO-9072/9074 has one layer of reverse-voltage protection.
The 48 W /24 V is the recommended power supply. You should be fine with the 23V power supply at 0.5A.

Hi,
The voltage and current values you give for your Hewlett
Packard power supply will yield a maximum of 11.5 W. The cRIO-9074 requires at
maximum 20W with all module slots in the chassis occupied. However, to just
turn on the controller with no modules connected, you only need 6W. Thus your
power supply will work fine to just power the controller and FPGA backplane.
But once you start trying to power modules, you may run into a problem. You
will not have adequate power to supply all 8 modules, that much is certain.
Exactly when in the process of adding modules you will begin to see problems
depends on a number of factors including which modules you insert and how many.
My best recommendation to you would be to not power more than just the
cRIO-9074 with this power supply. Once you add modules, upgrade the supply to something
that can supply at least 20W.
