NI-VISA driver installation

I am using a Standa motor controller stage and using their proprietary software SMCview. The software will require the installation of NI-VISA 4.6.2 driver but the installation failed every time. Then I tried to install the VISA 4.6.2 driver from the NI support page (http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/1605/lang/en) but it also failed.

Can you tell me what kind of software can create some incompatibility with the VISA driver?

I have a Windows Vista home 32bit. I hope the report that I included could help you to find the problem with the installation of the VISA drivers.

Hello,

What do you mean by fails? do you receiver an error?? can you attach the printscreen to it?

Do you have admin right to your computer? According to the readme file of the NI VISA 4.6.2 driver, it is compatible both with Windows Vista 32 bit and 64 bit, that brings the question if  you have admin rights on your computer.

Best regards,

I.R.

Yes Ive admin rights on my PC. Fail in the sense that I got a message that tell me that VISA couldn't be installed no really a reason why.

I also necessary will need to use the VISA 4.6.2 beacuse the SMCview program to control the motor controller is compatible only with that version.

I gonna clean up the installation and remove the partial files installed and redo a clean installation with the PS of the problem.

I would suggest you to try the installation on another computer or reinstall operating system on the computer.

thank you for your suggestions. I already tried to do in Windows XP (using in a virtual machine) and it works.

Of course I cannot re-install my OS just for a problem of a driver. It is like to wipe off the work of more than 10y just to find a solution for an uncompatiblity connect to some library that I already have installed in my PC.

I just need to know what library that it is causing the problem or what program.

Thanks again.

Hi,

Well, unless we have a specific error, I can not tell you what is the reason a certain application or driver can not install.

Best regads,

The installation doesn't give me any specific error. It just says that the installation failed. Does it produce any sort of log file? There isn't really not other way to find out what is the problem? I gave you my detailed configuration. If I have not a solution at the problem we couldn't buy the LABView software because we couldn't use it.

Let's me know if you will come out with any idea.

Hi,

Can you please test with this version of the driver https://www.ni.com/en/support/downloads/drivers/download.ni-visa.html

This is the latest version of NI VISA.

Also, you mentioned LabVIEW in your last post, are you using LabVIEW in your application? Do you have problems installing LabVIEW as well?

Best regards,

Ion R.

I cannot use the last version of VISA because it is not compatible with a third party software SMCView that I need to use to control my motorized stages.

I had the trial version of LABView 2012 installed in my laptop that I you already know it usinge the last VISA driver. Everything was working fine. Then in order to use that entioned software I had to uninstall the LABView and downgrade the driver.

That's when I started getting problem with the VISA 4.6.2.

Hi,

I believe you have just answered your question.

I guess you have just installed the latest driver and didn't uninstall it properly. The installation of theVISA 6.4.2. just detects the newers version and stops installing.

Can you confirm that you have uninstall all NI Software and not just LabVIEW? Did you also delete the folders from ProgramFiles and the registries from Windows?

Best regards,

I.R.
