NT 4.0 will not fully recognize AT-232/2 Serial Card

Test system at a remote site previously worked until someone futzed with something and made it inoperable. WinNT was reloaded, along with SP6a and lots of patches.

'PnPISA' has been installed.
MIO-64 and DIO-96 are recognized.
NI Serial driver v1.5 has been installed.
AT-232/2 appears as 'New Hardware Found' with a valid address and IRQ - no conflicts.
---- 'NI Ports' reports that 'No NI Card can be found' and LabVIEW doesn't see it.

Could you please try this:
Shut down the computer, take out the card, and boot into Windows NT (thereby ensuring one start without the card).
Then shutdown, put the card back in, and boot up. Run the NI-Serial diagnostics - do the ports now show?
If not, can you try to toggle this BIOS setting: "Plug and Play OS installed", and repeat the steps above?

If it still does not work can you specify what kind of computer is it (eg. was it purchased from a manufacturer like Dell or custom-built, what BIOS version)?
Another question: Did you have the card in the computer before installing the NI-Serial software?

Hi,

Just something you should make sure.

Most PC's have onboard serial ports, that can be enabled or disabled in the
BIOS.
Maybe they were disabled in favor of your AT-232/2 card, and have recently
been enabled again. If the card shares addresses and IRQ's with the onboard
ports,
it will probably not work.

HTH, regards, Matt

Thank you for your quick reply. Sorry I have taken so long to respond.

Before anything more could be tried with NT, in the interest of getting the production line back up, it was decided to switch to Win98, which was able to recognize everything.
