Need Bluetooth DLL for PocketPC 2003 (LVBtw.dll)

I'm using Labview 7.1 with the version 7.1 PDA module. I was told by NI that this combination supports bluetooth communications. When I try to use the NI bluetooth examples on the PDA (pocketpc 2003) it tells me it can't load Bluetooth Library LVBtw.dll

My PDA is an Ipaq 5555 with built in bluetooth hardware so there is no software to load. To my knowledge, bluetooth is running and active on the PDA, it's just that Labview doesn't acknowledge that. (I'm able to use bluetooth outside of labview). The Labview PDA manual was less than helpful. Can anyone shed some light on this issue or tell me where I can get LVBtw.dll to make labview happy? Thank you!

Hello bstedwel,

You are correct, the LabVIEW 7.1 PDA toolset does support Bluetooth communication on the PocketPC 2003. Which example are you running when you get the message that it cant load LVBtw.dll? The following link contains a discussion of using Bluetooth on the pda and some attachments that may be helpful in your situation. LabVIEW uses a virtual serial port to communicate through Bluetooth.

If none of these suggestions help, or if Im not correctly understanding your issue, please post any other information that may help, and Ill be happy to look further into it.

Have a nice day!

Hi Robert,

Here is the example I'm using: Advanced Bluetooth Client - PDA. I have read the information on the link you sent, and it doesn't help. The error occurs by just clicking on the executable so I'm dead in the water.

I can't find any reference to the missing DLL. I have bluetooth running on the PDA and I can see other bluetooth devices which I can connect to (outside of labview).

I appreciate any advice or other help you can offer.

Thank you!

Hello Bstedwel,

The following is taken from the Getting Started with the LabVIEW PDA Module 7.1 April 2004:

Installing the WIDCOMM Bluetooth DLLs on Pocket PC 2003 Devices

You must install the WIDCOMM Bluetooth DLLs on the Pocket PC 2003 device to build and run PDA applications that use Bluetooth communication.
Note The PDA Module supports the WIDCOMM BTW-CE 1.4 or later driver.
Complete the following steps to install the WIDCOMM Bluetooth DLLs.

1. Place the Pocket PC 2003 device in the cradle.
2. On the host computer, run labview\PDA\Utilities\Bluetooth\setup.exe to install the DLLs on the Pocket PC 2003 device. R
efer to readme.txt, located in the labview\PDA\
Utilities\Bluetooth directory, for information about manually installing the WIDCOMM Bluetooth DLLs.

Please let me know if following the above steps does not resolve your issue.

Have a nice day!

Robert,
Thank you for your assistance. I was able to get the DLL's loaded per your direction and this has resolved the error messages.

Hi Rob,

I have experienced the same issue using my Toshiba e800 pocket pc (built in bluetooth), but experience the same message. I also have loaded the labview dlls, but I still get the "Unable to load Bluetooth library LVBtw.dll" message. The system information lists the Bluetopoth Driver as 4.0.1.3.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,

I'm not sure what might be going on here. I would first suggest double checking that the files

BtCoreIf.dll
BtSdkCE30.dll
LVBtw.dll

are all on your PDA under the \windows directory to see if they were installed correctly. If they are not there, you can manually copy them over.

If that doesn't work, you may want to check what Bluetooth driver family your 4.0.1.3 driver is from. If it is not WIDCOMM, it may not work.

Hi,

i'm having exactly the same problem. My PDA model is a Qtek 2020 and i think that de Bluetooth driver family is windows.
This would explain why my app isn´t working. Is it possible to install the Widcomm Bluetooth driver on my PDA? And where could i obtain this driver?

Thanks in advance,

Hmmm, still no joy..

I have checked that the missing DLLs where installed (they were), and tried upgrading to the latest OS for this device. It now has the latest OS from Toshiba installed, (complete with something called a 4.0.2.3 blue tooth driver), but to no avail.

Everything I read says you cant just use a Widcomm Bluetooth driver unless it was specifically intended for this PDA, which they are not.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Steve

Pedro:

I think that this link should help you out. If you go to the "Installing the WIDCOMM Bluetooth DLLs on PocketPC 2003 Devices" section, there are step-by-step instructions on how to go about installing the WIDCOMM driver.

Steve:

I'm not sure how much advice I can offer you because I'm not very familiar with your breed of PDA. I don't even know what operating system it uses, so one thing to make sure of first is that it is using the PocketPC 2003 OS. I know some devices use the Windows CE OS, which is slightly different than the PocketPC 2003 OS. I do know that the bottom line to get the LabVIEW PDA Bluetooth VIs working is that the WIDCOMM drivers must be installed and functional. If your device does not support the WIDCOMM drivers, then I'm not sure there's much you can do. Perhaps anyone out there with more device-specific experience can give you better guidance.
