Need help reading/ accessing HDF4 format within LabView 8.2

dear all,

I have read about HDF5 format that can be plugged into Labview 6.* or
above.
However, my satellite data still in HDF4 format and I need to process
it using LabView 8.2.
Is HDF5 backward compability with HDF4 format?
Is there any utility to convert HDF4 into HDF5 format?

Please shed a light and thank you very much in advance for your help
and attention.

Warmest Regards,
Suryadiputra Liawatimena

Hi Suryadiputra,

I'm guessing this is the website you are referencing:
Can I Edit and Create Hierarchical Data Format (HDF5) files in LabVIEW?

I am not familiar with HDF4 or HDF5, but this site appears to answers your question about HDF4 to HDF5 conversion:
HDF5 FAQ -- How is HDF5 different than HDF4

It does not appear that they are easily convertible.

As already mentioned, you can use the HDF groups utilities to convert to HDF5.  However, if you want to use the native HDF4, you can download the HDF4 DLLs from here.  Make sure you get the documentation.  Then use the Call Library Function Node to access the DLL.  LabVIEW 8.2 includes a wizard that will automate most of this.  Look under Tools>>Import>>Shared Library.  The only major problems you will run into is if you need to use an HDF4 subroutine which uses functionality not supported by the Call Library Function Node.  Examples of this are function pointers in the call list and DLL constants.  For these, you will need to write wrapper functions which expose the functionality you need.

Good luck.  Let us know if you need more help.
