If your application uses data acquisition you may need to install Traditional NI-DAQ (Legacy) driver. We don't know what your application is doing so it's hard to say what's missing (VISA, NI-488.2, ...).

What does crash mean in this case?  What do you see?  I can't seem to find any documentation on the XP supported LabVIEW versions so I'm not sure XP is even supported but it might be.  Still without documentation, an installer, or source code you are probably going to find it difficult setting it up on a new machine.  I'd contact who ever first developed the application if possible.

Considering that LabVIEW 7.0 (oldest version I have currently installed) was released in 2003 and Windows XP around that time too, it's a safe bet that LabVIEW 5.0 (I believe 5.0 was released around 1996) never was tested for XP compatibility. That doesn't mean that it can't run, I know I used versions back to 4.0 on XP, but it of course requires the right drivers and such, which is likely the problem. The fact that XP is not supported anymore by Microsoft also won't help to create a stable system and the times where anyone knew exactly what incantations he had to invoke during installation of NI-DAQ, to make it work are gone too. My memory definitely doesn't know much of those details anymore, as they were moved to the useless junk that could be forgotten.
