No output from USB 6008

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi,

I have connected a USB 6008 to my computer but cannot read any output from it using a multimeter when I run my programme.

I've gone into the measurement and automation explorer, gone to the USB6008 device, clicked test panels and selected voltage output. From here I've gave varying output voltages and I can read all of these voltages using a multimeter from the USB 6008.

To check whether there was something wrong with the block diagram etc. that I had setup, I connected the 6008 to another computer which runs labview and used the same programme. It is giving an output fine.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be wrong on the first computer?

Much appreciated,

Paul

Have you run a self test on the USB6008 on the first computer?

Thanks for reply,

Yes, I've run a self test and it passed. In the Daq assistant menu, on the computer which won't work, the terminal configuration drop down menu will only allow the 'let NI-DAQ choose' whereas on the computer on which it works, it will allow the RSE configuration setting to be selected. Does this give any clue as to what may be wrong?

Paul

What operating system are you using?  Are you using NI-DAQmx 8.6.1?

I am using LAbview 8.0 on both machines.

I'm using Windows XP on both machines also.

If I were in your shoes I would download DAQ-mx 8.6.1 (here) on the PC you are having trouble with and give it a go.  I don't know why the 6008 would work on one PC and not the other when they both have the same setup.  Do you have other devices working on the troubled PC?

Nothing else running on the troubled PC. Have just installed labview on it. I will try that and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the suggestions.

If it works in the test panels but not in your program, it could have a different Device number automatically assigned to it that is not set correctly in the program.

I thought about that too but he said it was the only device on the computer.  I assume (but can't gaurantee) that one device on the machine means that device will be dev1.  I did not ask about virtual devices though...

Problem sorted. Downloaded that file (all 800mb, that's why I was a while responding) and it seems to have done the trick. Thanks jmcbee. Much appreciated.
