Norton antivirus flagging malware detection during installation

Hello there.

I am a complete noob so this may have been raised before.

I have tried to install labview for the first time as am interested in learning for a new role. I have downloaded and tried to install the community edition and Norton has block signing.msi for win32:malwarex-gen[trj].

Is this a false detection?

many thanks in advance.

Best solution: uninstall Norton. 😄

(Assuming you have privileges to remove and this is not locked down as part of a corporate policy)

Do you know if it was a file pattern or a behavioral detection?

There have been reports of Norton creating false positives for decades here. There is really no good reason anymore to clutter the system with addons that duplicate default functionality of windows 10/11 security features. What is your OS?

Disable Norton AV while installing.  In fact, the NI installer probably tells you to disable AV before installing.  Most apps tell you this, but people often click through it without even realizing it.
