Omega Personal DAQ 3000 driver installation w/LabVIEW 8.6

Solved!
Go to solution

I cannot find the appropriate driver for the Omega Personal DAQ 3000 data acquisition system (model OMB-DAQ-3000) in labVIEW 8.6 .  I have installed the LabVIEW driver off of the Omega cd, and updated the labview driver at ftp://ftp.omega.com/public/DASGroup/products/OMB-DAQ-3000/.  However, I when I went to bring this driver into LabVIEW, I went tools->instrumentation->find instrument drivers->     From there I found the only NI certified driver to be omhctb3k, and I installed the driver version of this for LabView 8.0.   When I then went to put this driver and associated instruments into my vi, it shows up only as a thermoregulator, and is only allowing me to use it for temperature applications.

I need to use this data acquisition system for pressure and displacement measurements, and am running on Windows 7.  Any insight on how I can find the appropriate driver and get it to work with LabVIEW would be much appreciated.

Also, if I have not posted this in the most appropriate forum, please suggest one that will be of more help.

Thanks!

The 'Find Instrument Drivers' has nothing at all to do with your DAQ device. Where did the LabVIEW driver from the CD/FTP site get installed? did you look at the User Libraries palette? Did you first try asking Omega about their software and where you would expect to find the LabVIEW functions?

Hey MCS11,

I think I either talked to you earlier this week, or someone else called me about the same exact thing.

Either way, I assume you downloaded the LabVIEW driver support from that link you listed. Your next step is to add this driver to your Function Palette in LabVIEW.  In the instructions that you can find here: C:\Program Files\DaqIO LabView Support\Enhanced LabVIEW Getting Started.pdf it walks you through how to add these drivers to your function palette. I've copied the steps for you below.

1) Open a new blank LabVIEW.vi
2) From the Tools menu item select Advanced >> Edit palette views
3) In the “Edit Controls and Functions Palettes” dialog box select “New Setup…” from the Palette view list box.
4) Enter a name for the New Palete View
5) Right mouse click in an open spaceIn the function palette and select insert >> submenu.
6) From the “Insert Submenu” dialog select “Link to a directory”
7) Browse to the “C:\Program Files\DaqIO LabVIEW Support” directory and go into that directory.
😎 Press the “Select Curr Dir” button. The DaqIO submenu should appear in the function palette. 9) In the “Edit Controls and Functions Palettes” dialog box Press “Save Changes”

The driver you found through "Find Instrument Driver" is a completely different driver which is why you are only seeing thermocouple VIs.

Hope that helps!

Kind Regards,

Allie F.

Thanks Allie,

this worked with the modification that I chose "link to an existing palette file (.mnu) rather than "link to a directory".  Thanks to you and the NI staff that helped me through this!

I acquired a 3001 daq board from omega, but I don't have the CD with the labview driver.  I've contacted omega to request the driver, but haven't received a response yet.  Is there somewhere else I can find the driver?

Does anyone know how to install the OMB-DAQ-3001 driver with LabView 12?

The OMB-DAQ-3001 driver is not supported by National Instruments, so your best bet would be to contact support at Omega.

Thanks for your reply.  I wasn't clear.  I have the driver but I don't know how to install it in LabView.  David

Have you contacted Omega? It doesn't seem to be something supported by NI.
