Optimizing Applications - Problem Using "Defer Panel Updates"

I am using LabVIEW 7 Express on a Windows XP platform.

I am trying to use the "Defer Panel Updates" panel property to speed up my application as shown on slide 30 in the technical presentation "Optimizing LabVIEW Applications". This presenation can be found in NI DEVELOPER ZONE>DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM>OPTIMIZING APPLICATIONS>OPTIMIZING PERFORMANCE>TECHNICAL PRESENATIONS.

LabVIEW gives me the error "Proprty Node: contains unwired or bad terminal" when I add the panel property to my application.  I have tried creating a new VI with the block diagram shown in the example given in the technical presentation, but I get the same error message.

Does anyone have a suggestion on what I may be doing wrong or have forgotten to do?

I did a search of the forum (I know... I should have done this first) and found an example that works.
