Other Hardware With Labview

Is the NI hardware cost competitive with other vendors products? Comments?
Is anyone using other hardware with the NI software? Just wondering if there
is any $ to be saved on large projects or multiples of projects.

Thanks all.

Hello Mike,

you can use hardware from other vendors as well. If they provide LabView-support for their products (aka "[device] driver") everything should work. But my experience is limited to GPIB-cards and a parallel I/O card... Try to get free updates of the drivers if there are changes in Labview. For older hardware this might be a problem (you may only get LV3/4/5-drivers for your LV7.x, this can lead to problems).

Of cause you can other hardware with labview. Some vendors also have
labview vi's to communicate with there hardware. Others allocate dll's
which you can use with labview.
To the prices of the ni hardware: I think the ni hardware is a little
bit more expensive then the hardware of other vendors, but ni delivers
high quality hardware and you get an excellent support.

Hi Mike
I agree whith previous answers.
In my experience, NI hardware provides all functionalities whit Labview. I got into trouble with Labview drivers from other manufacturers, since they only implemented a limited set of functionalities.

I have worked with many different DAQ cards and labview over the last year. The only one that even came close to compete with NI was DATEL and now they are no longer in that market. YES I will say that ni is sometimes more expensive but look at all the benefits that you get.HELP,HELP,HELP. Not only with the card but if you are having trouble programming with the card they will help you with that. With everyone else you are pretty much on your own with that.NI is not the only choice, Most new cards out today come with the drivers for labview or at least a dll that you can use in labview. But I guarantee and i know this from experience that when you are in A time crunch on the project then NI cards are the way to go.Simply because you can do everything to the bo
ards that you need to do with Ni software.
