PCI 1200 DAQ - Could not find DAQ Assitant

Hello

I ahve been given Lagacy DAQ 1200, according to NI appropriate driver shold be DAQ 6.9.1. I can detect PCI 1200 and DAQ 6.9.1 on MAX but could not see DAQ assistant on Block diagram. I just wanted to generate square wave and being able to control frequency and duty cycle.

The DAQ assistant is an Express VI implementation of the DAQmx functions.  So you'd have to install the DAQmx drivers to see it.  But you won't be able to use it for your PCI 1200 since it is requiring the traditional DAQ drivers.

Through the traditional DAQ functions that should be installed in your palettes.  Search the example finder for some examples on how to use them.

I tried searching each pallette, but could not find any. I also searched it in as in Search Functions on Block Diagram.

FYI

I am using

PCI 1200

LabVIEW 8.6,

XP,

MAX 4.5

DAQ 6.9.1

Hope I get something working.

It looks like your version of LabVIEW is either too new, or your Traditional DAQ is too old.  Version 6.9.1 is older than what shows on this chart.

NI-DAQ and LabVIEW Version Compatibility (for Windows)

It looks like you need to use DAQ 7.4.4.  But if that is too new for your DAQ card, you might have to abandon that card and buy something newer.

In here it says 1200 requires 6.9.1 or earlier I had latest but I installed older one, I have gone through manual as well but it doesn't say anything about which version of LabVIEW to be used.

I dont even think if its possible to have DAQ  and DAQmx both in parallel, one to detect hardware and other to give me programming.

Also Can I use MAX test panel to generate signals ??? Are the actual signals or virtual ?

You can intall Trad. DAQ and DAQmx in parallel, but you are only going to be able to use one or the other for any particular DAQ card.

If it is true that 6.9.3 is the latest you can use with that card, then there is no way you can use it with LV 8.6.  You can try downloading 7.4.4 and installing it and seeing if it works.  Sometimes it is hard to determine which DAQ drivers are valid for a specific card.  That link you posted is the only one I've seen for that card.

The second choice you have is to try to obtain a very old copy of LabVIEW that works with 6.9.3.

The third and probably best choice is to replace the card with a newer model that had a matching set of DAQmx drivers that work with your LV 8.6 version.

Thanks for your quick replies

So should I install DAQmx or DAQ 7.4.4 ?

For Second option where can I get old copy of LabVIEW and which version should I go for, hopefully I dont have to pay anything.

What about using test panels in MAX ??

DAQmx definitely won't work with it.  I would try DAQ 7.4.4, but there are no guarantees.

Try your local NI sales representative.  It looks like the newest version that works is LV 6.1.

MAX still relies on the drivers.  If the drivers work, then you should be able to see that in MAX.
