PXIe-8301 not connecting (Solid Amber LED)

Hi,

I am using a PXIe-8301 which I have plugged into the PXIe-1082 Chassis. However on powering on the Chassis the LED on the PXIe-8301 glows solid Amber which indicates Power Supply is Okay but no link between Controller and Chassis as per the below specification page:

Additionally, my PC did not have a Thunderbolt port so I have installed, Asus Thunderbolt EX4 to my PC to connect to the PXIe Controller and Chassis. Can anyone please help me troubleshoot the problem?

As I can understand there is connection issue between the controller and the Chassis. I have tried restarting the Chassis multiple times however the problem still persists.

Connect PXIe System With Thunderbolt™ Interface Card

Our Thunderbolt™ devices are primarily designed to work with third version Thunderbolt™ and/or ports that are built-in on the motherboard. Therefore, please be aware that all third-party PCI/PCIe add-ons are not officially supported and recommended by NI.

Is there a work-around? Since we have already invested alot on this project purchasing a new IPC would cost us a bomb. Please help. Can we install some drivers/adds-ons to make it work?

I was missing PXI Platform Services. Upon installing PXI Platform Services now the PXI-8301 card is enumerated in Max, however the PXIe-1082 chasis is not being enumerated.

 I followed the article:

https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA00Z0000004BA0SAM&l=en-IN

And performed Step #7 and Step #8 i.e. Resetting DAQ Configuration and installing the Registry file however the issue still persists.

Hi linu95k,

Thunderbolt expansion cards have been discussed in the forums before and I suspect your Thunderbolt EX-4 card is not setup correctly or not supported with your PC. These are not simple plug in cards that work for any PC, they are designed to work with specific motherboards and there are usually extensive installation steps and cabling requirements to make them work.

I am not suspecting the thunderbolt card because the PXI-8301 is enumerating in MAX however the chassis PXIE-1082 is not being enumerated. The controller is being enumerated like a 3rd party serial device. If I check the device manager it shows as SMBus device.

I know that this thread is a little old but I ran across this while trying to find a problem that I am having with all of the thunderbolt equipment that we are using. I made a "setup guide" for me and my colleagues to help us remember all of the steps that we usually have to go through with a new system setup which includes Asus motherboards and the NI Pxie-8301. I think we only have one system that is using the Thunderbolt EX4 Pcie adapter. The guide also covers the use of the Asus ROG Maximus XIII Hero motherboard with an onboard thunderbolt controller. This guide is not full proof! As I am currently having issues with a system that is identical to many others. The 8301 will simply not show up in NI Max as anything other than a USB device.
