Where can I find a comprehensive list of Function/Tools/Control palettes (incl. images and descriptions)?

That doesn't contain images. I'm not aware of a location that contains a comprehensive set of images. The LabVIEW Wiki contains some. What the image looks like depends on how you've configured the palette. For instance, whether to display just the icon, or the icon with text. You will need to use a screen capture program to get the individual palette images.

Thanks for the suggestion - I'm aware of the NI documentation, but was hoping there was some sort of catalog of Functions, Tools and Controls - perhaps something that was assembled by a user (if not by National Instruments).  I'm looking for an organized method of familiarizing myself with the available palette items, as many of the images are non-intuitive.

Check out the LabVIEW Help , more notable that link for LabVIEW Programming Reference Manual. This will give a list of the available VI's broken up into how they appear on the functions pallette.
