Problem in opening and running LabVIEW in separate user account

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello,

I would like to create a 2nd user account on my lab computer that has LabVIEW 2011 installed on it. However, when I try to open LabVIEW in the 2nd user account there is an error code 1 and another message complaining about some 3 button dialog VI.

I found that I can still continue by clicking OK, except now I cannot run my VI, which I have copied over from my 1st user account. I get the errors attached, including one that seems to be complaining about the Simple Error Handler in my VI that handles error messages at the end of my program. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix these errors?

Please help!!

Thanks!!!

Hi M_Vrinkle,

did you check all user rights? Does your 2nd user have all needed access rights (also for vi.lib on drive C: )?

Best regards,
GerdW

Hi GerdW,

Thanks for your quick reply! I am not sure how to check for user rights specifically for LabVIEW. Just now I tried to access LabVIEW 2011 from the Program Files in C drive, but only saw it in the NI-DAQ folder in my administrator account. So I went into that folder and gave it full control for my user account.

However, I still get this error (attached) when I try to run LabVIEW from my user account.

Would you please let me know how I can check for user rights and enable it for my user account?

Thanks again!!

Is it possible to make the new account an admin of the PC?

Hi Vrinkle,

usually LabVIEW is installed at "C:\Program files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW xxx", where "(x86)" applies for a 32bit version of LabVIEW on a 64bit Windows and "xxx" marks the LabVIEW version (year). In that folder you will find subfolders "vi.lib", "instr.lib" and "user.lib" - all these folders (as all the remaining ones in LabVIEW folder) need access rights granted to your new user account!

Btw. posting your serial number on a public forum isn't your best idea...

Best regards,
GerdW

I asked the moderator to remove the image. Don't know how fast the pirates will act in stealing the serial number.

Thanks for everyone's help!!! I've modified the user account to have full rights to the entire LabVIEW folder, and now it works!!!

Okay, now how to remove my attachment from my previous post...?

Thanks again, I really appreciate GerdW, bilko, and Dennis_Knutson's suggestions.
