Problems with Microsoft RemoteApp and Windows 10

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello,
We have installed a LabVIEW 2018 Application on a Windws Server 2008R2.

We used it since years as RemoteApp (not Remote Desktop).

So you can use the LabVIEW program from many computers without the need to install the LabVIEW Runtime on these Computers. And when you need to update the program you only have to update the program on 1 Computer.

Since a month it does not work anymore with Windows 10.

It seems to depend on the Windows 10 Version. Build 1709 works but build 1903 works not.

It looks like something has changed since Build 1803:

A Windows update seems to fix the problem for most applications. But for me it seems that this update has not fixed the problem for LabVIEW. I also tried it with a very simple LabVIEW application. But it also fails. Other Apps works well with RemoteApp for example the Windows calculator.

Remote Desktop with Windows 10 acts normal, RemoteApp with Windows 7 is also ok.

What happens? You can normal log in to the computer. When you push the button “show details” you can see that the program opens. But than the window disappear and no handle is in the taskbar. The Remote Desktop connection is still there, but invisible. No special entry in the event log from windows.

Does anyone have the same problem? Does anyone know if it would work with Windows Server 2016/2019? Has anyone a solution or an explanation why LabVIEW programs are not working?

Thanks Thomas

Hello bhovhann,
Thanks for your reply.
Can you give me a link to more information about that?
Does it work with higher Versions of Windows Server like Windows Server 2016 and 2019.
If it is just a problem of updating the Server operation system, everything is fine to me.

Now we use on one Place Windows 10 Version 1903 and Windows Server 2019.
It works in general, but the LabVIEW RemoteApps have no icon in the taskbar.
So it is a pain to bring the RemoteApps back to front.
I'm using LabVIEW 2018 32 Bit.

Is there a solution for bringing the icon of the LabVIEW RemoteApp on the taskbar?

It works with Windows Server 2019 & Windows 10 & LabVIEW 2019. Thanks National Instruments!
Is there a workaround for LabVIEW 2018? So I do not need to upgrade all application so short before LabVIEW 2020.

Windows Server 2019 is not a supported OS at this time and probably will never be. The latest Windows Server OS supported is 2012 R2. You should be aware of that issue. There are a few threads around here discussing this issue. One thread is dealing with multi-threading another I think dealt with some write permission issues. NI will also provide no support regarding this issue.
